april birthdays 2029

Barbara Gray was turning 48; it wasn’t a milestone birthday by any means, but she still felt hurt that her children didn’t intend to do more than just text her a Happy Birthday before their morning classes.

She tried calling both of their cells, and neither answered. She was forced to resort to texting, something she rather detested. Her fingers were clumsy, and nowhere near as agile as her children’s fingers. A mid-morning pick-me-up at the Cafe near campus, that was all she wanted. It didn’t seem like a birthday worth celebrating if her own children were too occupied to even visit for a few minutes.

For months, the family has been waiting on test results, and finding no conclusive answers. Their eldest daughter, Scarlett calls daily, while she struggles to find the motivation to stay on campus. Rebecca doesn’t know what to tell her aside from staying at school and getting her business degree.

Scarlett had always believed that television did not depict reality, as such she had anticipated college being full of studious students; she had been woefully mistaken. The greatest punishment was that she had been placed in Willa’s residence hall. She’d said all along that she should have been in Miner Hall. Willa was gorgeous, thin, a model, and terribly viscous.

Scarlett just had her birthday, and Elodie started preschool in the fall, it’s been a rough year for me. Feels like the kids are all growing at exponential speeds. It would have been easier if Elodie didn’t struggle to make friends. I’ve arranged for playdates at our house, at the encouragement of her teacher, Ms. Miriam. And they are always a disaster. Kids can be so mean!
