When Dad died, it only made sense to give the bedroom to Thomas, but he was terrified he’d see Grandpa’s ghost. Even though I didn’t exactly have the funds, I paid to redecorate the room just for him. It seemed to help, but I did miss snuggling with him.

He’s doing great in school, and I don’t know where he could possibly get that from. None of my siblings have a knack for studies, and I know Lewis doesn’t either. But we aren’t complaining.

Kai is learning to drive with his permit, just as a winter storm moves in. Luca insists he will be fine, and that he needs the practice in inclement weather. Nadia didn’t feel as confident being a passenger, so she gladly allowed Luca to take the reins.

When they get back, Thea and Clio are outside playing in the snow.

December started with their Grandpa John being admitted for a staph infection. Morgan wasn’t terribly concerned for her Dad, having seen it on elderly many times in her career, and she felt confident with her skills to get her Dad back on the mend and back home.

The girls were more rattled by it all, and they missed him terribly at home.

He preferred night time hours, all of his life. Growing up the oldest of three, he’d been expected to excel, to be a good big brother, but those things hadn’t interested Ethan. He slipped into the game world as a teen, and he never looked back. Cold turkey quits now and then to attempt saving his first marriage, to be a better Dad to his youngest, Caitlyn. But all in all, he didn’t see the harm in finding something he enjoyed.

Perhaps his first wife would have been happier, maybe still alive, if she’d found a hobby to enjoy.

The last few years had brought a great deal of chaos to the Browning household. Nadia’s bookstore would celebrate its fourth anniversary in May, and it finally seemed to be making a steady income. They weren’t going to retire like a Rockfeller this lifetime, but it was enough.

Kai had started working part-time, mostly the weekends. His Mom didn’t mind if his friends stopped by as long as they weren’t rowdy. Books were a shared passion for Kai and his Mom, and he didn’t mind helping out; it didn’t hurt that it gave him an income to spend on more books.
