never too old to dream

Most of our days are routine, Gideon is working on a new research grant letter. His previous horticulture project at the university has completed, and he’s ready to tackle his next big questions. He loathes this part of the job the most. I can’t say I’m terribly fond myself, as he stays up late into the night, and I don’t like going to bed alone.

I usually spend my evenings with Dahlia. Even though she’s eleven, she still enjoys cuddling with her Mama, and I’m not complaining.

our greatest joy

march 2030

The hospital had scheduled Paloma’s induction for five am, which meant that they had to rise well before the sun. The trees were beginning to blossom and bud, and it felt right with Paloma to be entering the season of rebirth with the delivery of her twins.

Her family knew of the induction, and actually beat her to the hospital. Her sister, Linnea had come in the night before from EU, and despite Paloma insisting that she’d call as soon as the babies arrived, they came to wait.

december birthdays 2029

december 2029

Paloma is six months pregnant with the twins, and already feels grotesquely huge. She struggles just getting out of bed with all the weight she’s carrying in the front.

Each morning, Adam comes out of the bathroom, as she’s preparing to go in. He gives the twins a good morning talk, tells them to stay put, and that they have to listen, because he is their Dad.

We celebrated our tenth anniversary this month; we went down to the small cafe in Millwood and kept it simple. It’s hard enough these days to get time at home together, let alone an evening out. As it happened, it was a Wednesday evening, and we had the place to ourselves.

I’ll give my all to you (Creelman – Brindley Wedding)

It was a measly one month shy of two years since Adam proposed. Paloma could hardly believe that they’d managed to wait that long. Getting married had been one of the biggest things on Paloma’s list when growing up, but since the birth of her bakery, the actual ceremony hadn’t seemed that important anymore.

She was grateful that her family had talked her out of a wedding at her bakery, though she was certain it would have been a lovely, intimate affair; the lighthouse was a luxury that she wouldn’t soon forget.

I’m still helping my Mom with catering jobs when she asks. It’s good money for me, and has really helped me save up for my own bakery. A nice perk is bringing the fancy leftovers to Bobbi’s for our weekly horror night festivities.

We went on our first date four years ago, and he still gets up to greet me when I get in.

Recently, Gideon mentioned how he still felt the desire for another baby, though logically he realizes that we, or me primarily, is past that stage. When I unexpectedly lost the baby three years ago, I wound up closing my heart to the idea entirely. Dr. Morgan had been diligent in telling me how age was against me when it came to pregnancy this late in life, and I feel very blessed with three daughters I have.
