Oliver McCarthy (32 years), Brooklyn Lange (26 years)

Brooklyn loves kids, she wouldn’t have become a teacher if she didn’t. However, loving them, being pregnant with one, and having them in a wedding were not of the same cloth. Oliver’s nieces and nephew tore up their bedroom, and frankly, she was too pregnant and exhausted from the end of year grading to deal with it.

It seems that their eldest daughters grew up and became independent in a blink. They aren’t begging to visit their Dad at the station, or play at the park with their Aunt Lily-Mae. Grace misses them as she packs up her two youngest and head to South Port.

Nicole has been happy having Elias back home, she was wary that he would marry the city-girl and run off to South Port to live. The debt involved with the farm and renovating the house were extreme, and it was all for naught if Elias abandoned that dream.

She wasn’t happy that her son was heartbroken over the break-up. He mostly kept it under the lid, but now and then she could hear him from his bedroom. It was an unhappy coincidence that the two largest rooms in the renovation were next to one another.

Student Enrollment

narrated by: Lucy

For the first time in as long as I have worked at Longfellow, which is quite a many years, we have a reduction in students. All of those things are good. It’d be even better timing to train a replacement principal for myself, while the classes are controllable. I turn sixty-three this year, and imagine I’ll go until I’m sixty-eight or so. Unfortunately I don’t know who to pick, Miriam or Oliver, and then I need a replacement teacher still. I’m putting it off despite knowing I shouldn’t, hopeful that some great teachers will be graduating EU shortly.

With Hatty’s fourth birthday behind us, we finally feel that we are able to focus on our family and home as a whole. With toddlers, there are more basic needs like diaper changes, naps, and frequent snacking. Now all the girls can mostly fend for themselves, that me and Benjamin don’t feel entirely exhausted at the end of the day.

I’ve spent my entire life cramped with too many siblings and not enough bedrooms, finally when everyone has moved out, Mom and Dad decide to expand. Now the house is huge, and I don’t know what to do with all the space. It’s weird having a second floor bedroom too, right down the hall from Mom and Dad. I’m not sure I’m a fan of that.
