Goss Family, Krouse

one fish, two fish

Final days of summer, and Penelope spends most of her free time with Otto. She will miss him when she’s stuck back in a classroom; he doesn’t know how lucky he has it.

She calls him her happy chum, although she doesn’t quite know what the word means. It usually makes him giggle, and she can’t get enough of it.

She won’t exactly miss her Dad, he’s been kicking her butt at games for her entire life, and she’s had it. She can beat her best friend, Eileen, but she can’t beat her Dad, and there’s something extra frustrating about that, like perhaps she isn’t as good as thinks.

Otto turned one earlier this month and life had gotten much easier. Sure, he got into mischief, but he could speak better, move if he was uncomfortable. If he wanted a banana, he could actually let her know.

However, he still kept wonky sleeping hours and would randomly wake the household with his screams.

happiest time of year

Kenzie Goss (66 years), Tyler (64 years)

After raising children for about forty-six years, it was time for Kenzie and Tyler to downsize their home. Dean was a junior at EU, and it didn’t sound like he’d be needing his old bedroom after graduation. He didn’t know exactly what he was going to do, but he had options, and so they sold their home.

Morgan had to work on the twins’ actual birthday, so they’d gotten permission to go shopping with some girls from school, and they scheduled the family pool party for later in the month. With great persistence, the girls had talked her into a co-ed birthday party. They insisted that turning fifteen and being banned from boys was archaic, and Morgan wasn’t swayed. It wasn’t until they exclaimed that Lewis had ruined their lives did she relent.

I’ve had a more difficult time with Dean moving to university, than I expected. He moved out all of his belongings and furniture aside from the bed, which the dorm supplied, and I find myself sulking in there when Tyler is occupied. He doesn’t approve of the mopey attitude, but I miss having him home.

beginning of all things

We came home with Penelope, and I was nervous as I had expected myself to be, but Marshal was just the same. In all likelihood, he would have been fine with parenting a newborn, if he hadn’t set the delivery room on fire. While he and my sister-in-law, Morgan panicked, I just had to laugh, internally and in-between shooting pains of labor. It was absurd, and only goofy, sweet-intentioned Marshal would do such a thing.

Births

hello world

august 2025

The anticipation around this baby’s arrival was not lost on Kenzie. Becoming a Great-Grandma to Thomas had not been full of such excitement. There had been some, but not as much as the little guy had deserved, mostly due to her grandson Lewis not participating fully.

Lorelei and Marshal were obliging enough to allow Kenzie and Tyler to poke around the hospital while she labored.
