Thanksgiving break is just a week away, and everyone is ready for the time away from school, even the teachers. The school day starts, and the Browning twins are in the throes of a hearty game of tag. Their big sister, Mavis just walks past, ignoring their shenanigans. She prefers the more quiet hobbies which require no sweat.

Irina has only been in school for a few months, but she’s already enamored with her preschool teacher, Mrs. Siew. She shares stories of her travels, although her parents haven’t had time to take her on a vacation yet. They are planning to the next summer, but it seems so real to Irina, she feels like she’s already gone.

This was the first year Mrs. Lucy would be teaching sixth graders, as the school district had recently voted to implement the change. She felt much too old to be dealing with these sorts of things, but she took it on the chin. Oliver would be graduating in the spring with his Masters in Education, and he was likely taking her place the upcoming year as principal. She would miss the students though, and walking the halls with their chattering and exciting stories.

Half of the school was visiting McCarthy Farms in October. Lucy had used Oliver’s connection to the farm to book the deal, and the school district paid pretty well. Finn had to leave enough apples and pumpkins for the school kids to pick their fill, and while it was mildly stressful when the fruits hadn’t quite ripened yet, it all fell into place.

Finn gave all the kids a quick talking of the rules, all the while his daughter’s dog, Dash howled and made himself into a regular nuisance.

Student Enrollment

narrated by: Lucy

For the first time in as long as I have worked at Longfellow, which is quite a many years, we have a reduction in students. Census shows that we don’t have any surges in our populace for at minimum the next four years. So our classrooms are less occupied, and the students are getting more one on one attention. All of those things are good. It’d be even better timing to train a replacement principal for myself, while the classes are controllable. I turn sixty-three this year, and imagine I’ll go until I’m sixty-eight or so. Unfortunately I don’t know who to pick, Miriam or Oliver, and then I need a replacement teacher still. I’m putting it off despite knowing I shouldn’t, hopeful that some great teachers will be graduating EU shortly.

spring birthdays 2027

march 2027

Lainey and Michael enter the first trimester. After discussing the baby and their living arrangement with her roommate Alice, they decide to buy a house instead of kick Alice out. It leaves Alice in the situation of needing a new roommate by the end of summer, and Lainey searching for the perfect house to buy. They’ve already decided to leave the city and commute for work, only because it makes the most financial sense as real estate is cheaper out in Millwood.

Lainey is due in September.
